Renault chief Flavio Briatore has
called on his rivals to gang up on Ferrari to avoid another one-sided
Formula One campaign next year.
The flamboyant entrepreneur tasted world championship
success at Benetton when he helped steer Ferrari’s current
king Michael Schumacher to titles in 1994 and 1995.
Renault were one of the few teams, other than Ferrari,
to score a win this season — thanks to Jarno Trulli’s
Monaco victory. But Briatore feels the divide between the Italian
giants and the rest is too big.
He said: “People often say there are four
top teams in the paddock but I don’t agree. There’s
only one and that’s Ferrari. The others need to close the
gap to them and not just Renault.
“Ferrari won 15 of the 18 races and dominated
the drivers and constructors’ championships.
“It’s
now up to all of us to work better and challenge them. Ferrari can’t
keep having it all their own way.”
