Last
weekend saw Ferrari take to the track at Arezzo in an event organised
to support Telethon and genetic research. The Corporate Kart Challenge
- 24 Hour International Race was run for the first time and saw
41 different teams from the world of sport, business and entertainment
get behind the wheel of the 4-stroke karts. Apart from Ferrari,
there were squads representing: Minardi, Toyota, Aprilia, Alfa Romeo,
Rai and Mascalzone Latino.
Telethon benefited fully from the funds raised by
the spectators and by viewers and listeners on TV and radio. Telethon
will also receive what is raised from the many other iniatives in
support of the cause.
Another attractive proposition is that, from September,
the VIP team have auctioned a place in their line-up. The highest
donors were rewarded with a racing seat alongside the champions.
For the record, at the end of a tight struggle Team
Ottici Riuniti, captained by the son of Giancarlo Minardi, Managing
Director of the Minardi Formula 1 team, came out on top. Salvatore
Ferragamo’s Accelent and Team Durango came home next.
Ferrari
entered two teams who finished 9th and 24th. Among those driving
for the Reds were Felipe Massa, Andrea Bertolini, the FIA GT championship
Ferrari driver, and the engineer Luca Baldesserri.
