Nigel Stepney chatted to
Ferrari fans the other week and we managed to be on that chat and
get down all the questions and answers from the session.
Q:
Of what does consist your function of race technical manager?
A: the organization of the procedures and methods of working
for the mechanics and the link between them and the engineers
Q:
Mr Stepney, do you actually help the team when designing the car?
A: no, we give inputs to help the designers to make the
work easier on the car practically
Q:
What have you done during the last three weeks - some holidays?
A: we prepared he car for this race and we had five days
of holidays to recharge the batteries
Q:
Which car do you drive in private?
A: a Ferrari 360 Modena
Q:
Nigel, what do you like to do in your spare time, away from F1 ?
A: sport, all kind of sports: swimming, cycling, football,
golf

Mr.Stepney can you say something about development steps for next
3 races:Monza,Indy and Suzuka ?
A: the next three races are high speed circuits so we have
a special aero package coming for monza, which is the base for Indy
and Suzuka
Q:
Mr Stepney, which is your favourite Ferrari?
A: the one who wins!!
Q:
I do not understand why the tires bridgestone are bad this season
whereas the season spent, they propelled Ferrari at the top. Can
you give a reason to that?
A: tyres are not bad this season. It is just a matter of
packages which are better in one circuit and worse in other
Q:
Nigel, you have worked with many great drivers who, sadly, are no
longer with us. Who was your favourite?
A: the two favourites are Senna and De Angelis
Q:
Mr Stepney, will the F2004 be a radically new car?
A: it will be an evolution of the F2003-GA
Q:
Mr Stepney what's your favourite circuit?
A: Monte Carlo

Monte Carlo! - In spite of the working conditions?
A: yes, despite the working conditions, the atmosphere
and the close contact with the fans make this a special event
Q:
Nigel, do you manage to get back to the UK much?
A: four days in Silverstone for the British GP are enough
for me!

Nigel do jou like the belguim gp
A: yes, very much, it is my second most favoured circuit
Q:
Nigel, do you think there will be more changes to the rules before
next season &, if so, to which ones?
A: the main one regards the engines, with only one engine
unit available for race weekend
Q:
Nigel, what do you think about McLaren's MP4-18? were thay right
to design so radical and tight packaged?
A: they were right in designing a radical package but the
timing was wrong.
