Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemelo
lashed out on Sunday at the rising costs of Formula One for both
fans and the teams.
"I am concerned when I see that the
admission tickets for a race are too expensive for young people,"
he told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
"Spectators are paying more for a weekend
at a Grand Prix than an airline ticket for the Caribbean."
He also criticised the allocation of cash
to the teams from the organisers of the world championship.
"In Formula One, the teams receive nothing
either from the advertising at the track or from the gate receipts.
We have only 47 percent of the TV rights.
"It's absurd that the financial consequences
for Ferrari are the same if 400,000 or 10 people went to Hockenheim,"
said di Montezemelo
"It's intolerable that teams carry all
the costs and receive ridiculous sums in exchange. We are running
the risk of having a lot of teams who won't be able to continue
in Formula One.
"We must put a stop to the rising costs
and increase our receipts. That's why we are going to Bahrain and
China."
Some of the sport's leading teams have been
threatening to form a breakaway championship if demands for a greater
share of the championship's profits are not met. |
