Bridgestone
Motorsport is to become the Official Tyre Supplier to the newly
launched GP2 single-seater racing series which is due to commence
in 2005.
Director
of Bridgestone Motorsport, Mr. Hiroshi Yasukawa said: “Bridgestone
is extremely proud to have been chosen by the GP2 Series organisers
as the official tyre supplier. It is a wonderful opportunity for
Bridgestone’s tyre engineers to play a greater role in the
education and training of young drivers as they aspire to become
our future world champions. As supplier of tyres to the past six
consecutive FIA Formula One World Drivers’ and Constructors’
Champions, we recognise the importance of nurturing talent and we
look forward to working with the next generation of Formula One
Grand Prix drivers as they develop their skills and technical knowledge
in the GP2 Series.”
In
addition to recognising the importance of the GP2 Series itself,
Bridgestone is fully aware of the high costs involved in racing
and is therefore pleased to confirm that the supply of Bridgestone’s
GP2 tyres will be included as part of the competitive package offered
to teams taking part in the series. Furthermore, the GP2 Series
organisers will present to the overall winning driver of the category
a sum of US$100,000 which is to be known as the “Bridgestone
Prize”.
The
GP2 Series is set to become the final step on the ladder before
entering the FIA Formula One World Championship, providing ambitious
racing drivers with a clear route to the pinnacle of single-seater
racing. Combining the best of Renault power and identical Dallara
chassis, it is expected to be a highly competitive series as drivers
will step up from the junior categories into the GP2 Series where
they will learn the skills necessary to become a Formula One driver. |
