Fuels
* Shell ULG58/L4 has so far brought the team a maximum 36 points
out of 36. Ferrari will continue to use it in France.
* The new blend was introduced to cope with the high speeds of Montreal
and Indianapolis. Ferrari is expecting the fuel to come into its
own therefore down the long straight into the hairpin in France.
* As ever, Shell ULG58/L4’s low density offer Ferrari the
most flexible strategy. Safety car periods in the USA Grand Prix
clouded race strategies, but Ferrari was able to run long and at
high speeds after the early stops, thanks in part to the low-density
of the fuel.
Oil
* Having used a new engine oil in the USA, Ferrari will revert to
a previous development of oil for France. The oil used at the past
two races was developed for high-speed, high temperature circuits
and may return for the Italian Grand Prix in September (depending
on the development programme).
* To that end, Shell Helix F1SL785 will return to the car in Magny
Cours.
* By offering Ferrari a portfolio of engine oil, Shell and Ferrari
have evolved engine oil from being a product to a key engine component,
integral to the engine’s performance and set up.
* Magny Cours is not particularly hard on engines, although the
high ambient temperatures can see engine and gearbox temperatures
rise, giving the oil more heat to dissipate to maintain the engine’s
performance.
