Earlier
on in the year reports started to emerge that Giancarlo Fisichella
will test for Ferrari sometime during the season. Of course the
rumours will helped by the fact that Massa was backing testing for
Ferrari and Ferrari needed more drivers to help develop the Bridgestone
tyres. Sauber were not prepared to do that much testing and save
costs so the logical thing would be to have Giancarlo come over
over to Maranello and test the Ferrari.
This
whole subject was bought up in the Friday press conference at the
European GP last week and Brawn and Peter Sauber were abit sketchy
about the subject.
Ross
was asked what the problem was with Giancarlo's overalls that stops
him from testing for Ferrari. His reply to that was: "Technically
there just has not been an opportunity for him to run so from the
point of view of the programme we have so there has not been a convenient
time for him to run, but I am not aware of any commercial issues."
While Peter Sauber replied with: "Yeah, it
is a small problem, but it is an internal problem".
Well
I can reveal the answer and yes it is to do with the overalls, in
some way. Felipe Massa is owned by Ferrari so he can wear Ferrari
overalls and Sauber overalls while Fisichella is contracted to Sauber
only which means he can only wear Sauber overalls. The reason this
is a problem is because Shell sponsor Ferrari and thus the sponsor
is on the overalls while Petronas sponsor Sauber and again the logo
is on the overalls. So if Giancarlo was to test for Ferrari he would
be wearing a race suit sponsored by Shell and promoting that oil
instead of Petronas which his contract states him to do.
So
until Petronas and Sauber work out some sort of deal whereby Fisichella
is allowed to be seen with the Shell logo on this overalls then
he won't be testing for Ferrari. |
