Ferrari have launched an internal
investigation after the team's innermost secrets were offered for
sale to rival teams.
A team of junior engineers attempted to sell
highly detailed drawings of the F2002 for a cool £660,000.
According to the News of the World, an intermediary
offered the documents to several teams, one of whom is believed
to have paid up.
Technical director Ross Brawn would not be
drawn on the subject.
He said: "I've heard the stories and
we know about it but I have got no comment to make whatsoever."
The information, which was burnt on to a
CD, contained information on the car's design, its aerodynamics and
its dimensions.
Ferrari's investigation is understood to
have uncovered sensitive information on an engineer's computer.
Rival team bosses said the information were
generally not interested in buying these secrets, no matter how
juicy they were.
One unnamed executive said: "It is dynamite.
No one wants to be linked with this, even if they have rejected
the drawings and are not involved in any way, because it could cast
a shadow over their achievements on the track."
Toyota boss Ove Andersson added: "We
were not offered any designs. We always reject any such offers because
they are obviously illegal."
The F2002 won 14 of its 15 races last season,
making it one of the most successful cars in the history of the
sport. |
