Monza to host Ferrari weekend - 17th May 17:05pm GMT

A special meeting at the Monza circuit this weekend, with a demonstration by single-seaters prepared by the Maranello F1 Clienti department and races counting towards the Italian Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy, which also features the gentlemen drivers in the Shell Cup.

As far as the Formula 1 demonstration is concerned, on Saturday and Sunday, no less than sixteen cars are expected to take to the track, of which worthy of a special mention are an ex-Ascari 1953 500 F2 and seven examples of cars driven by Michael Schumacher during his career with the Prancing Horse.

The one make series, run over seven events including the Ferrari World Finals now uses just the F430 cars after the 360 Modena brought its brilliant racing career to an end last year. The formula for the competition features races of forty minutes duration, as usual with an obligatory pit stop which adds spectacle and excitement in the pit lane, as well as allowing for cars to also be crewed by two drivers taking turns at the wheel.

Going into the third round of the season at Monza, heading the classification in the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy is Vito Postiglione (team Motor/Malucelli) with a five point lead over Niki Cadei (Rossocorsa,) while leading the Shell Cup is Sandro Mucelli (Stile F Service,) who leads Giorgio Massazza (Rossocorsa) by one solitary point.

SKY Italy exclusively broadcasts coverage of the fifteenth year of the Italian Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy and on Sunday 20 May, will broadcast live on the SKY Sport Extra channel from 10.40 with the first race on the card and from 14.10 the second one (both repeated on SKY Sport 2, at 24.15 on Monday 21 May.)

RTL 102.5, the Italian one-make series' official broadcaster will put out regular information during various bulletins throughout the course of the weekend.
