European GP - Shell preview - 4th May 18:18pm GMT

FUEL

· Further to its successful introduction at last week's San Marino Grand Prix, Shell will continue to use its new fuel ULG 62L/3.

· This new, high-power fuel was developed for Scuderia Ferrari's use in Imola with excellent results. Using Shell V-Power ULG 62L/3, Michael Schumacher claimed pole position for the season's first European Grand Prix and went on to win the race.

· This proven fuel now gives Shell an excellent platform from which to move forward. The Shell Formula One team will be monitoring its progress closely this weekend in Germany.

· 'We were very competitive and that's thanks to a lot of us, our many partners, starting with Shell, who came up with a new fuel, some more horsepower,' said Michael Schumacher after his Imola victory.

ENGINE OIL

· The Nürburgring Formula One circuit has undergone many changes over the years. Although today's modern circuit is often overshadowed by the infamous history of the original circuit, it is by no means an easy race for the cars. This circuit offers a combination of semi fast corners and tight bends which can be particularly demanding on Formula One engines.

· This year, the race will be held several weeks earlier than usual. Weather conditions are notoriously unpredictable.

· Shell will be retaining engine oil Helix SL-0932 and gearbox oil Spirax L6285. This lubricant combination worked successfully in San Marino alongside the new V-Power fuel to help Ferrari onto the podium.

SHELL FACT

· Despite the cool conditions often experienced at the European Grand Prix, due to the heat transfer, the fuel in a Formula One car can get as hot as a good cup of tea.
