Renault chief Flavio Briatore wants to sign Michael Schumacher — but the German will not consider any offers until he has decided if he wants to race on next year.
Seven-time world champion Schuey, 37, is contracted to Ferrari until the end of this season.
He has an option to stay but insists his decision will depend on the team’s success this year.
Schmacher’s manager Willi Weber said: “I told Flavio we are not talking to anyone until Michael decides whether he wants to.
“Flavio let on we should talk to him before we sign another possible contract with Ferrari. We would first talk with Ferrari.”
Schumacher won his first two titles under Briatore at Benetton in 1994 and 1995. |
