Ferrari's Rubens Barrichello has blamed
the HANS safety device following his early exit from the Australian
Grand Prix.
The Brazilian went out on lap 5, after running
off the road and destroying his car.
He told British broadsheet newspaper The
Guardian: "My concentration wasn't fixed on the track because
the HANS device was sitting on my collarbone and hurting like hell."
HANS, the head and neck support system has
been made mandatory this year by the FIA in a bid to improve safety,
and although few drivers commented on it after the race, a number
have been hard at work trying to adapt the device to suit their
needs.
Team-mate
Michael Schumacher [pictured with the HANS device] reported no problems.
