A little over a month after the last test
for Scuderia Ferrari where he had been working as a test driver
since the begining of 2002, Luciano Burti will be back to the tracks
next week. He will be testing Adrián Campos’ Formula
Super Nissan car next Wednesday and Thursday at the Montmeló
circuit in Barcelona. Burti is travelling to Europe tonight.
Burti concluded his work with Scuderia Ferrari
at the begining of this month when he announced his intention in
going back to competing. A few days ago he was invited by the organizers
of the Formula Super Nissan, who intermediated the contacts with
Adrián Campos, to get to know the class. Nevertheless the
team has already defined it’s two official drivers for the
2003 season. They will be Marc Gené - test driver for Williams
in F1, and Santiago Santí Porteiro, last year’s Formula
Nissan 2000 Champion, Formula Super Nissan’s access series.
Excited with the oportunity of getting behind
a wheel again Burti has already gathered information about the car.
"I have been told by other collegues that the car has good
grip in slow turns because of the ground-effect. It is not as efficient
in the fast turns because of the lack of aerodynamics, like in Formula
1. The truth is that the slow turns are the ones responsible for
the time difference due to the braking, turning and accelerating",
observed Burti.
The teams are taking the activities in Barcelona
rather seriously because Championship Regulations set strong limits
for testing. Having introduced a new Nissan V6 engine version, with
450 HP against last year’s 415 HP engine and the new tyre
compounds developed by Michelin, this will be their only chance
to work on the settings of the cars before the beginig of the season
next March 30th in Jarama, Spain.
Burti believes that the adaptation to the
Formula Super Nissan car will be easier due to the presence of the
engineer Jean François Sinteff, whom he worked with in 2001,
at Prost Grand Prix in Formula 1. Sinteff is Technical Director
for Adrián Campos, one of the strongest teams of the class.
Although Burti considers Formula Super Nissan a great option to
continue his career, he does not exclude other possibilities. "We
are looking at different alternatives, including the United States",
admits. |
