In the frenetic world of Formula One, German
ace Michael Schumacher is universally regarded as a larger-than-life
figure.
But few have acted on such admiration to
the extent Melbourne-based Zimbabwean-born sculptor, Mitch Mitchell
has.
Mitchell is currently working on a three-metre
"statschu" of the five-time world champion, which he hopes
will be cast in bronze in time for the Foster's Australian Grand
Prix from March 6-9.
And recently he allowed The SportsVine an
exclusive preview of his clay monument to Schumacher - the result
of 16-hours of intensive daily work over a six-week period.
Depicting
Schumacher giving the famous victory salute seen after each of his
record 64 GP wins, the monument was unveiled deep within the bowels
of a Melbourne inner-city warehouse, under the watchful eye of Mitchell
and six year-old Ferrari fanatic, Jack Giles of Armadale.
