European GP 4th - 7th May 2006 - Friday Free Practice 1.1 Report

Length: 5.418 km
Number of Laps: 60 (308.863 Km)
Best Lap: M. Schumacher - 1'29''468 (2004, Ferrari)

2005 Pole: N. Heidfeld - 1'30''081 (Williams)
2005 Podium: F. Alonso - N. Heidfeld - R. Barrichello

Friday’s first practice session at the Nurburgring provided the usual opportunity for the ‘Friday’ drivers to display their respective talents.

Alexander Wurz, in the Williams-Cosworth, took top spot with a time of 1:32.079, just eclipsing his regular sparring partner, Anthony Davidson in the Honda, who set a 1:32.399.

Trailing these two by half a second was Robert Kubica, continuing his good form in the BMW-Sauber, while Michael Schumacher put in a late lap to record fourth fastest in his Ferrari.

Robert Doornbos just broke into the 1:32’s to keep the Red Bull within a second of the fastest times, while Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello took sixth and seventh places with late exploratory laps in their Honda’s.

Kimi Raikkonen followed these two, the Finn keeping the mileage on the revised Mercedes-Benz engine to a minimum, with Ralf Schumacher similarly conserving his Toyota for future sessions just behind.

Adrian Sutil, for MF1 racing, just pipped Neel Jani in the Toro Rosso, with these two followed closely by Scott Speed in the sister STR, and Christijan Albers and Tiago Monteiro, also for MF1.

The final two times today were set by Super Aguri cars, with Takuma Sato just faster than new boy Frank Montagny, the Frenchman getting to grips quickly with his new mount to finish within a tenth of his team leader.
