- Welcome. Weather this morning is good. Its sunny and dry which was
unexpected as it was predicted that it would be raining. Justin Wilson
the first to come out on track.
03:00 - Justin Wilson takes to the track as he qualified
last yesterday. The track is clean after a short warmup just before
qualifying.
03:01 - Wilson crosses the line to start his lap. Runs
abit wide in the first corner and crosses the line in the first sector
and does a 31.3
03:03 - Wilson goes into the pits. He fails to cross
the line and now he has access to the car and can change the fuel and
setup of the car.
03:04 - Pizzonia in the Jaguar now. He looks very rough
and not smooth. Crosses section 2 at 54.9. He crosses the line and does
a 1:30.723
03:05 - Verstappen out now, what can he do? Sector
1 and he is down by .4 so will he take to the pits?
03:06 - 1.033 down on Pizzonia so its very slow which
suggests that Minardi are bending the rules of F1. He comes into the
pits.
03:07 - Ralph Firman starts now, a pretty poor start
to his F1 season so far. Sector 1 and he is .39 up so a good start.
Sector 2 and he is .67 up.
03:08 - Firman crosses the line at 1:31.242 and 0.481
fastest then Pizzonia. Its Ralf Schumacher out now.
03:09 - R. Schumacher is .6 up on Firman so a very
fast lap but yesterday was a pretty bad day for Williams so this isn't
a surprise he is far up. He crosses the line and does 1:28.830 and is
2.4 seconds fastest. Break time.
03:13
- Mark Webber takes to the track now as he builds up for this lap.
03:14 - Runs wide on corner 1. Sector 1 shows he is
down by 0.524 on Ralf.
03:15 - Now down by 0.7 but it should put him in second
behind Ralf Schumacher. He crosses the line and does a 1:29.367 and
does a great second sector. Now its Fisichella.
03:16 - .2 down in the first sector which isn't bad.
Sector 2 coming up and he is now .6 down so its getting worse for Giancarlo.
03:17 - Fisichella takes the line at 1:29.344 and goes
second and just under half a second slower than Ralf but 2 seconds faster
than his team mate.
03:17 - Frentzen out on track.
03:18 - He is up by .2 so he should be running a lighter
fuel load. Sector 2 and he is now .3 up!
03:19 - He takes provisional pole at 1:28.274 and over
half a second quicker than Ralf Schumacher. Heidfeld, his team mate
is out now.
03:20 - Sector 1 and he is .169 up on his team mate,
this should be close between them. Sector 2 and Nick is now .036 down.
03:21 - Heidfeld takes the line and goes second with
a 1:28.464. .190 down on his team mate. Da Matta now on track
03:22 - Da Matta catching traffic. He is .69 on sector
2 so not great for the Toyota driver. Crosses the line at does 1:29.538
and takes 6th. Now a break.
03:25
- Montoya now on track. He needs to do something special for Williams
as it might be a race weekend to forget for them.
03:26 - He should be faster than Ralf Schumacher. Sector
1 and he is .233 ahead of Frentzen so going to take pole. Sector 2 coming
up and he is now .153 up so dropping abit.
03:27 - Juan Pablo crosses the line and does 1:28.101
and goes faster by .101. Trulli now out on track who was fastest in
session 3 of practice this morning.
03:28 - Sector 1 for Jarno and is .4 down on Montoya
but he did get out of shape in corner 1.
03:29 - Now .7 down. He is giving away 12 km/h on the
Williams down the straight. He crosses the line and takes 5th and just
over a second slower.
03:30 - Panis now on track in the Toyota. Sector 1
show he is .190 down which is surprising, abit slow. Sector 2 now and
he is .181 so not that bad. Could be good.
03:31 - Panis over the line and goes 3rd and .187 slower.
Not a bad run there. Alonso now out in the Renault.
03:32 - Sector 1 coming up and he is .030 down so very
close to Montoya, he could be a surprise. Sector 2, can he be up on
Montoya. No 0.105 down but loses the back end and loses time, still
he held it well. He crosses the line and goes 6th. 0.8 slower.
03:33 - 6th and 7th for the Renaults with Alonso being
quicker than Trulli. Coulthard now out on track.
03:34 - Not looking good for DC. Sector 2 and he is
.7 down on Montoya so he must be running heavy for the race tomorow.
He crosses the line and goes 7th. Just over 1 second slower. He is likely
to be out of the top 10 when qualifying has finished. Break now.
03:37
- Out on track is Button. The top 5 now. Barrichello, Raikkonen, Villeneuve,
Schumacher and Button still to run. This should be good.
03:38 - Button starts his lap and into sector 1 with
a time .3 down so not as great for BAR as they wanted. They might of
been running light in other sessions. .5 down now for Button. He crosses
the line and goes 5th.
03:40 - Schumacher starts his lap. Montoya must be
running light to get that speed. Schumi doing well, sector 1 and he
is .126 up on Montoya.
03:41 - Sector 2 and he is now .280 so looking good
for a pole for Michael. No problems and looking smooth as always. He
comes up to the line and takes pole. .928 ahead so a fantastic lap!
Almost a second quicker than anyone else.
03:43 - Schumi can't do worse than the first 2 rows
on the grid. Villeneuve out on track. Sector 1 coming up and runs wide
in turn 4. Time is .3 down on Schumi.
03:44 - Sector 2 and he is now. .572 down so BAR's
maybe running quite heavy. Finish line coming up and he crosses the
line and takes 5th. Over 1.2 slower. Ohh that is a bad lap for Jacques.
Raikkonen now out, the man to watch.
03:45 - Running the spare car now but how much fuel
is he carrying? Sector 1 and .3 down.
03:46. - .3 down and he runs off the track. The first
driver to make a bad mistake. Not that much of a problem but he puts
him 14th on the grid. What a big disapointment for him.
03:47 - Barrichello now out on track. He should be
on the front of the grid if he keeps it together. Alot of understeer
on the Ferrari. Sector 1 and he is .063 down.
03:47 - Now .2 down on Schumacher. Raikkonen has a
flat rear tyre that was the problem that put him off the track. Barrichello
comes across the line......and goes 2nd. .245 behind so a fantastic
result for Ferrari! Schumacher takes pole!
03:49
- Schumacher suddenly smiles for the first time this weekend. Ferrari
looking really happy with things. Schumacher almost a second quicker
than Montoya. So its Schumacher, Barrichello, Montoya, Frentzen, Panis,
Villeneuve, Heidfeld, Button, R Schumacher, Alonso, Coulthard, Trulli,
Fisichella, Webber, Raikkonen, Da Matta, Firman, Pizzonia, Verstappen.
03:51
- Brawn says that Ferrari are looking good for tomorrow. He says that
the change in the qualifying rules has upset Michael this weekend.
