| Following the frantic opening sessions at Monaco two weeks ago, it was back to business as usual at Silverstone this morning as only a handful of cars set representative times.
At the dry and sunny Northamptonshire circuit it was Williams test driver Alexander Wurz who set fastest time, just a whisker under 1:22s, to shade the Honda of Anthony Davidson by less that one tenth of a second.
Along with Robert Kubica in the BMW-Sauber, a close third in the times, these three did the bulk of the mornings running, with race drivers only appearing late in the session, and even then very few.
Fourth place went to Jarno Trulli in the Toyota TF106b, hoping for a perfomance boost from the new aerodynamic package this weekend, while a late, but hardly sensational, lap by Michael Schumacher put the Ferrari number one in fifth place.
Honda race drivers Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button also put in late, somewhat careful, laps to finish in the top ten.
The remaining times went to the test drivers Giorgio Mondini for Midland, plus the two race drivers Tiago Monteiro and Christjian Albers, and the new Super Aguri man Sakon Yamamoto, who felt his way around Silverstone carefully while getting to grips with car and circuit.
Franck Montagny and Takuma Sato, in the remaining Aguri's, also set times.
Neither McLaren or Renault attempted to set a time this morning.
