It was the third
session in succession, and the second on Saturday morning, that
the Finn had topped the timesheets as his MP4-19B proved ultra competitive
at Silverstone.
BAR’s
Jenson Button (1:18.414) had no answer for the McLaren’s pace
as he was once again forced to settle for second.
The leading
duo were aided by an uncharacteristic performance from Michael Schumacher
who spun and ran off the track in his Ferrari F2004 on Saturday.
The six times
champion managed to set a time of 1:18.951 – the eighth fastest
- late in the session to save face but before then couldn’t
compete with the pace of his rivals.
Of course it wasn't helped when he took a trip through the gravel
trap and ending up an escape road.
Rubens Barrichello
was left to lead the Scuderia’s charge and fought hard to
finish in third position with a time of 1:18.623.
Renault
and Williams were also in the mix with Jarno Trulli (1:18.694) and
Marc Gene (1:18.832) finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
