The efforts
of BAR’s Jenson Button (1:19.468) and Ferrari’s Michael
Schumacher (1:19.671) proved fruitless as the pair took a back seat
in the face of McLaren’s continuing resurgence.
But despite
the fight between three of the sport’s biggest names those
who bothered to turn up for the 9:00am start were left largely unentertained.
With overcast
skies and sub 15 degree temperatures none of the 20 Formula One
stars were overly keen on the idea of lapping Silverstone.
Nick Heidfeld
was the busiest man - amassing 12 laps - while most of his rivals
only completed the one timed run.
Minardi
remained indoors during Saturday’s first session of practice
after receiving the sad news that their sporting director John Walton
had passed away overnight.
Alonso
will be moved back 10 places on the grid after having his engine
changed.
